Get The Complete Diagnostic Picture of Your Patient Doctor a complete diagnostic picture allows you to educate and manage your patients with confidence right from the start of care.  Generally patients with significant spinal instability take longer to stabilize and can have more exacerbations than those with a more stable spine.  This is easy to manage and easy to explain when you know what is there from the start.  This also allows you to put together active and passive care plans that address the ligament instability as the complicating factor that it is.
Ratable Impairment Per The AMA Guides
Now you can determine the level of your patient's impairment via the AMA Guide to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, 5th Ed. 2000.  Again when you understand what your patient has, you can provide both education and manage your patient's care with confidence.

Injury Apportionment Can Be Easy
This occurs when you use numerical facts, rather than personal opinions.  X-Ray Digitization of films of two or three different accidents can provide this and make it much easier to apportion, based on numbers not opinion.

Reduce ICE/Insurance Review Troubles
Today technology can provide you with unbiased and accurate numerical data that is hard to contest, as it is not you who is saying it, or your opinion.  Just hard numerical objective evidence.

Spinal Instability Can Make Care More Challenging.  Unless you know it is there!  How hard is it to inform your patient that their report came back indicating serious ligament instability, letting them know that they could be harder to stabilize because of it, and that they need to follow your care recommendations completely in order to ensure an optimal outcome. Doctor don't get caught months into care trying to explain why care is so slow in progress, when it can be indicated as a possibility, truthfully, from the start.  Your patient's deserve the very best of care, and that starts with good diagnostics.

Clinical necessity is justified for assessing the degree of insult and the effect upon the patient’s health and future well-being by way of impairment rating." 1998, 2003, 2008 CCP Guidelines located in the National Guideline Clearinghouse

This procedure allows you to more accurately test your patient's dynamic flexion and extension x-rays in order to better assess the location and the severity of the spinal ligament damage.

Now look at page 392 out of the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, 5th Edition. Click HERE for the cervical criteria.  Click HERE for lumbar spine criteria.

Specifically look at Category IV (DRE) diagnosis related estimate. Pay attention when you read, “alteration of motion segment integrity is defined from flexion extension radiographs” and then it proceeds to give the exact NUMBERS. Look to the left at that x-ray, does the break in "Georges" line a C2, C3 and C4 meet that criteria?  Can’t tell can you? You can guess but you can’t tell?  Well we can because we have sophisticated software that can take your patient's flexion and extension views and accurately measure them.

This cannot accurately be measured by hand, as the criteria is in 1/10s of a millimeter and no hand ruler has these delineations.
While hand mensuration should not be overlooked, it cannot approach the accuracy attainable with advanced computer technology. Computer aided digitizing mensuration analysis provides biomechanical analyses with a high degree of accuracy in order to make a chiropractic differential diagnosis and/or to determine care protocols. Mensuration also provides a definitive baseline for follow-up radiological examinations as an assessment of outcome.39-117 2003 CCP Guidelines pg. 71

National Injury Diagnostics was established to provide optimal diagnostic imaging support services for those providers who treat spinal ligament injuries.  While most spinal ligament injuries (sprains) are not life threatening they can be very life impairing because they can cause pain and spinal nerve dysfunction.  Providers who are treating acute or chronic spinal injuries need to be able to differentiate a number of factors in order to set up optimal treatment plans.  They may need to:

  • Rule out serious pathologies (ie. bone fractures, bone disease etc.) which can mimic a spinal sprain condition.
  • They will need to determine the location and the severity of any spinal ligament damage.

We provide this to the medical, chiropractic, osteopathic provider community by bringing the best of both traditional radiology reads for complicating pathologies; as well as contemporary functional radiology reads to better determine the location and severity of any spinal ligament damage.

As a treating provider for over 16 years I understand that a wrong or incomplete diagnosis can lead to years of non-optimal and in some cases inappropriate care, resulting in a patient who now suffers from a now chronic, life altering condition.

Complete and accurate diagnosis is the road to effective and efficient treatment plans that can yield optimal results.  This creates a win-win environment for both doctors and the patients that they care for.

That is why I started this diagnostic service.
